Conagra - Camelot

Gilbert partnered with Conagra Brands on this heavy industrial design-assist project, which involved overhauling an adhesive application process for four large food packaging presses at their Maple Grove, MN, facility.

Gilbert upgraded the facility with state-of-the-art ductwork, piping, ventilation, boilers, and custom rooftop heating and cooling units, totaling 350-ton capacity, with heat recovery wheels for energy conservation.

Customer Needs

Conagra Brands Inc. faced an array of challenges in designing their Camelot facility, including:

  • A redesign of an adhesive application process for four very large food packaging presses.

Key Strategies Implemented

Gilbert implemented a variety of efficient solutions to ensure a comprehensive design-assist with fire protection, HVAC, and piping enhancements for the facility, including:

  • Negative 10" WC process exhaust and 10" WC process supply ductwork to optimize air management.
  • High-pressure (60" WC) blow piping to support industrial drier operations.
  • High-pressure blower and exhaust fan installations
  • Adhesive storage, pumping, and delivery systems, along with upgrades to welded gas mains and compressed air piping, to meet modern production demands
  • New process boilers tailored to meet the presses' requirements
  • Five custom rooftop heating/cooling units, delivering a total of 350 tons of cooling capacity, 80,000 CFM of outside air capacity, and 9,880,000 BTUH heating capacity, with the inclusion of heat recovery wheels for energy conservation.
